Supporting children. Strengthening systems. Protecting families.
Mission
The Barry Martin Foundation was established in 2023 following the death of firefighter Barry Martin in the line of duty. Inspired by Barry's courage and guided by lived experience, we are committed to creating lasting change for children, families and communities.

We believe no child should face grief alone, and no family should have to search for hope, understanding or support during life's most difficult moments. Through compassionate bereavement resources, community initiatives and evidence-informed advocacy, we help children navigate loss while working to strengthen the systems that exist to protect them.

Our work is built on compassion, shaped by experience and driven by a belief that every child deserves hope, every family deserves support, and every system should strive to do better.

This is Barry's legacy.
Not only to be remembered, but to continue making a difference in the lives of others.

Support
Resources for Bereaved children
Oliver and Daniel have written and designed a growing collection of compassionate resources inspired by their own experience of losing their dad, firefighter Barry Martin.

Beginning with Barry the Brave and Bazza Bear, each resource has been created to help bereaved children understand their feelings, encourage conversations about grief and remind them that they are never alone.

Through every project, the boys hope to bring comfort, courage and kindness to other children facing loss.

Outreach
Taking support into our communities
We believe support should be visible within our communities.

Our outreach projects bring bereavement support closer to people who need it most, helping families discover practical resources and message of hope.

Barry's Benches is one of several community initiatives that will continue to grow.

Advocacy
Driving Meaningful Change
Our advocacy extends beyond remembrance.

We are committed to influencing law, health and safety, public policy and bereavement practice through informed, compassionate and evidence-led engagement.

By working with government, public bodies and partner organisations, we seek to improve systems, strengthen support and help shape a safer future for generations to come.
